Uovo con patatine fritte? Attenti! L’apparenza inganna

Be careful, and don’t judge by appearances
This rule is valid for everything, but how can we explain it to our kids? They will meet in their life friends who will not be friends, beautiful things that will break in a minute, clothes that seem comfortable but will be irritating, bright exterior colors that will be dull and ugly, insignificant things in the plate that instead will be delicious and appetizing… In other words: a big mess. Growing up is very difficult! Our children have to learn this in part by “banging their nose against the wall”. When their hopes will be frustrated they will be really disappointed, but when they will have good surprises they will be happy to have carried on till the end. I think we must try to teach this, they must experience, they must go on and not judge by appearances. All this will be a good reason for discovery, for growth and pursuit. So, how can I help with my little practical teaching? With a dish that is not the dish that seems to be! Oh, my God, what a roundabout expression. So, on Sunday (I had more time, the weather was bad and we were at home), I tested my girls and I played with them: “Come on, breakfast is ready! I prepared American breakfast, fried egg, chips and ketchup!” The reaction was: Chiara: “Wow mom, cool!”; Laura: “Noo mom this is disgusting!” Silvia was still asleep and Elisa… she isn’t reliable just because she is always happy if she can eat! When they got closer to the plate and began to try it the reactions were reversed: Chiara: “what a pity!” (It’s a long time that she asks me eggs and bacon for breakfast); Laura: “Wow mom cool!” (As her sisters teaches!). So, Laura was happy and Chiara not too much, but they would never have discovered it if they hadn’t “carried on to the end”! Try it yourself, it will be fun and maybe with this joke your “lazy” children will eat fruit, there is no harm in trying!
Ingredients for a dish “not dish”: 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese, 2 tablespoons of sweet white yogurt, a teaspoon of sugar (or honey), half an apple divided into sticks, half a squeezed lemon, half a yellow plum and 1 tablespoon of cherry jam. Mix the ricotta cheese with the yogurt, add sugar. Peel the plum, get the sticks of apple and dip them in lemon juice, so they don’t become red. Take a plate and place the ricotta cheese as if it were part of the white egg cooked, put on it the plum, add the apple sticks with the jam and… ready!!
